The State’s Premier Port City

Gladstone is 550km north of Brisbane and 100km south-east of Rockhampton.

The Gladstone region has evolved from a combination of natural resources such as coal, oil shale and salt mining to the exploration into future development processes such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This has resulted in Gladstone being a major driver of both the Queensland and Australian economies.

Known for being the State’s premier port city and boasting several of the nation’s most significant industries, it is home to Queensland Alumina; the world’s largest alumina refinery, Boyne Smelters Limited; Australia’s largest aluminium smelter, Rio Tinto; the world’s first greenfield alumina refinery, Southern Pacific Petroleum, Ticor Chemical Company, Orica Australia and Comalco.

Transportation

Gladstone is a central hub for transportation and distribution boasting world-class port facilities, a well-serviced and modern city with regional road support, rail freight and a regional airport 8kms from the city centre. Gladstone’s continued advanced planning of infrastructure such as the reconstruction of Gladstone Regional Airport and the Kirkwood Road project, positions the town for future sustainable growth in all sectors.

Tourism

Adding to Gladstone’s natural beauty and tourism the region encompasses the Southern Great Barrier Reef of the Discovery Coast, the hinterland of the Banana and the burgeoning areas of the city centre and surrounds. This prosperous combination makes Gladstone the ideal destination.

Lifestyle

As a gateway to the treasures of the Great Barrier Reef, Gladstone enjoys a uniquely relaxed seaside lifestyle. It’s blessed with easy access to beautiful beaches and coral cays, parks, playgrounds, walking tracks, picturesque lookouts, botanic gardens, the fine art gallery, nearby winery and one of Queensland’s largest marinas.

Waterfront and foreshore recreation areas dot the city. Gladstone Marina, Barney Point Beach and award-winning Spinnaker Park are focal points for leisure activities, barbeques and oceanside get-togethers. There’s great barramundi fishing nearby and scenic national parks to explore in the mountain hinterland.
